El Gouna

El gouna

El Gouna is a luxury tourist complex with a vast number of activities, hotels and other services of the highest quality in the entire Egypt. The resort was founded in 1989.
It is located 20 kilometers north of Hurghada and has a 10 km long coast of the Red Sea. The town has its own advanced infrastructure and you will find here almost everything from shops, cafes, restaurants, many hotel chains to power plants, water desalination plants, golf courses, small private airports, hospitals, schools, banks, pharmacies, exchange offices, etc. It also hosts the El Gouna film festival, where well-known stars also gather.

The whole town is very clean, ecological, quiet and full of beautiful greenery. El Gouna means “lagoon” in Arabic, which describes its construction with many artificial lagoons and canals directly connected to the sea. Lagoon spreads throughout the city and is surrounded by hotels and houses with private beaches. Many islands are connected by a number of stone bridges. Small boats carry tourists run along the canals, which is why El Gouna is often called ‘the Egyptian Venice’. In connection with the higher standard, it is necessary to count with higher prices than those accustomed to tourists from Hurghada or other Egyptian resorts. Traders are also more adapted to the local environment, so don’t expect bargaining as you may know from the rest of Egypt.

El Gouna is a paradise for water sports such as diving, windsurfing, kiteboarding, water skiing, paddleboarding and snorkelling. The beaches here are very well maintained and the conditions for kiteboarding are absolutely excellent.

Information on travelling to El Gouna

The great advantage of traveling to El Gouna is its easy accessibility from any European country. A transfer from Hurghada Airport to El Gouna takes 30 minutes. You don't need any vaccinations, you just need a valid passport (at least 6 months). A visa is required to enter the country, but you can easily get it at Hurghada Airport for $ 25. The currency here is the Egyptian pound (EGP).

In terms of security, the country is stable and there is no danger. El Gouna is a closed city, accessible only through two gates. Security is at a very high level here.

You can travel here all year round but the main season is considered to be March to May and September to November, where the average temperature is between 26°C and 30°C. In summer, temperatures rise up to 35°C. For kitesurfers these high temperatures are tolerable due to the time spent on water and humid wind. We have proven to ourselves that even the winter months are amazing here and you can spend a beautiful Christmas and New Year’s here. Temperatures are still above 20°C, on some days they even climb to 25°C while the water temperature is still above 20°C.
